LDP Proposal for a New Japanese Immigration Policy
Japan's Liberal Democratic Party lawmakers made a proposal for a new immigration policy. Elaborated by the group of 80 lawyers, it suggests that the ratio of immigrants - formerly called "foreigners" - be raised to about 10% over the next 50 years and that an "Immigration Agency" be set up by 2011.

O Estado de S. Paulo of Tuesday, June 10 (C6 - Cidades/Metrópole) features the recent IBGE* publication on the Japanese Immigrants in Brazil (Resistência e Integração: 100 Anos de Imigração Japonesa no Brasil). According to the article, from 1960 to 2000, the number of the Japoneses (people with Japanese nationality) decreased from 155,982 to 70,982, whereas Nikkeis (people of Japanese ancestry) increased from 439,471 to 1,405,685.
